From the Washington Post:
“At least seven people are dead after as many as three shooters dressed in military style uniforms opened fire in a rampage at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday, police said, spreading fear and chaos across the region as authorities tried to contain the incident.
D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in a mid-day news conference that one of the suspected shooters is dead, while authorities are looking for two other suspects wearing green and tan military style clothing.”
At first this seemed like just another workplace shooting, albeit at a highly secure military facility. However if the reports that say there were multiple gunmen are true, then what we may be looking at is an act of terrorism. One man is a lone nut and two are a psychotic duo, but to have three guys doing the shooting requires a level of organization that is above and beyond just a disgruntled employee.
As Chief Lanier said, “The big concern for us right now is that we have potentially two other shooters that we have not located at this point.” It’s hard to these men lasting too long in a facility as secure as this one. The nightmare scenario would be if they escaped, which would plunge the nation’s capital into a manhunt that could be as extensive as the one following the Boston Marathon bombing back in April.
